IN - Right-to-work legislation that prompted Democratic walkouts and major protests at the Statehouse this month passed the House Jan. 25, allowing legislators to begin focusing on other bills awaiting their attention. |

WV - Republican businessman Bill Maloney announced that he is running for governor again this fall, setting up a rematch with Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin (D). Maloney was narrowly defeated by Tomblin in a special gubernatorial election last October, 50% - 47%, to fill the remainder of former Gov. Joe Manchin's (D) term. |

OR - The 2012 session of the Oregon legislature convenes next Wednesday, Feb. 1. Lawmakers are targeting Feb. 29 for adjournment of the short session. |

MN - The 2012 session of the state legislature convened Tuesday, Jan. 24. Lawmakers aim to finish in 10 weeks rather than the usual 15 weeks in order to get an early start on the campaign trail. Lawmakers also want to avoid a repeat of last year's session, which included a three week shutdown of state government during a budget showdown. |
