AlabamaAL.com - good resource for Alabama politics. It is a comprehensive interactive source that includes information from Alabama's three largest papers - The Birmingham News, The Mobile Register, and The Huntsville Times.
AlaskaAnchorage Daily News - the best on-line resource for Alaska information. Includes a good amount of local as well as state news.
ArizonaAZ Central.com - Arizona Central provides links to city, county, state and federal government agencies in the community section of the Arizona Republic (Phoenix) paper.
ArkansasArkansas Democrat Gazette - the state's major paper, now free (except for archived materials).
CaliforniaThe Roundup - a daily look at the news from the editors of Capitol Weekly and AroundTheCapitol.com.
ColoradoDenver Post.com - look for legislative issues under "Voter's Guide."
ConnecticutThe Hartford Courant - has several different links to both state and local news. Contains decent coverage of major state issues.
DelawareWilmington News Journal (part of delawareonline.com) - the only state paper of any size in Delaware. The website and print addition are nice papers, however, the focus is on very localized issues. There is a link from the site directly to the Delaware General Assembly.
FloridaTampabay.com - has a good section during the legislative sessions and covers campaigns well.
GeorgiaAccess Atlanta (partnered with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution) - an average online newspaper.
HawaiiStar Bulletin - a good paper/website from Honolulu. Lots of photos, large focus on industries of importance to Hawaii, such as tourism and military issues. A very local issue oriented paper.
IdahoIdaho Statesman (Boise) - updated, but still an easy-to-navigate, straightforward site.
IllinoisState Journal-Register Online (Springfield) - a good source for Illinois state legislative news.
IndianaIndyStar.com (online version of The Indianapolis Star) - provides excellent coverage of news in Indianapolis as well as the rest of the state. Mouseover "Local News" link for link to politics and government news.
IowaSioux City Journal - provides substantial coverage of political developments in Iowa. Go to the "Business" section (listed third after "Front Page" and "News" for news on politics.
KansasTopeka Capital-Journal Online - has an excellent separate section for state legislative session news. See "Legislature" link under "Additional News."
KentuckyKentucky.com (partnered with the Lexington Herald-Leader) - contains city, region, and state areas.
LouisianaThe Advocate Online (Baton Rouge) - currently, elections site connects to state government cites.
MaineMaine Today.com - comprehensive website by the publishers of the Portland Press Herald and several other daily newspapers. Articles are interspersed among these sources, but are fairly good on state issues.
MarylandThe Capital Online (Annapolis) - part of the HometownAnnapolis.com website. This site provides excellent coverage of Maryland politics straight from the source. A Spanish version is available online as well.
MassachusettsBoston Globe - offers comprehensive local and national news as well as complete Campaign 2000 coverage.
MichiganDetroit Free Press - has Michigan and Politics links on the left side.
MinnesotaGrandForksHerald.com - state legislative news more readily available than in the larger (Minneapolis/St. Paul) paper.
MississippiClarion Ledger.com (Jackson) - the leading paper for Mississippi, with good coverage of the legislature.
MissouriJefferson City News Tribune - contains links to state and city government.
MontanaBillings Gazette.com - relatively easy to navigate. Good coverage of legislative issues and local Montana concerns.
NebraskaJournal Star.com (Lincoln) - the leading Nebraska paper.
NevadaReview Journal.com (Las Vegas) - not from the capital, but this is the largest daily paper in Nevada. It covers elections, as well as state and local news and issues. The site also provides links to city, county, state and federal officials.
New HampshireUnion Leader/New Hampshire Sunday News - the online edition of New Hampshires' dailies. Good coverage of politics here.
New JerseyNJ.com (partnered with the Newark Star Ledger) - allows easy access to local news. Also, under "News+Biz" there is a statehouse link.
New MexicoSanta Fe New Mexican.com - contains links to elections and regional news.
New YorkThe New York Times - an excellent online paper. It has great city and state coverage and also a separate link for political issues.
North CarolinaNews Observer.com (Raleigh) - one of the state's major papers. To get state legislative issues, hit the news link at the top of the page and then click on NC from the drop-down box. There is very good coverage on important state issues.
North DakotaBismark Tribune - broad news site. Heavy with legislative news during session, very little otherwise.
OhioCleveland Plain Dealer - link from Cleveland.com. Comprehensive Ohio coverage.
OklahomaNews OK.com (powered by the Daily Oklahoman) - easy to navigate, and covers local and state issues fairly well.
OregonStatesman Journal.com - the state capital newspaper. On the left-hand side under "News" is a link to State News.
PennsylvaniaPhilly.com - a partnership website of the Philadelphia Inquirer, Philadelphia daily news, and Philadelphia 6 Action News. The site's local/region section is an excellent source of state legislative news and often contains material on New Jersey politics as well.
Rhode IslandProjo.com (Providence Journal) - keeps up well with major happenings in the state.
South CarolinaThe State (Columbia) - a relatively good newspaper, but it is sometimes difficult to find information on politics or the legislature.
South DakotaArgus Leader.com - the state's largest newspaper. Good legislative coverage during session.
TennesseeTennessean.com - has an Elections section.
TexasAustin American Stateman - focused reporting on day-to-day happenings in the legislature, with archives. Also contains links to pertinent offices and chambers of the legislature.
UtahSalt Lake Tribune/Utah Online - includes state and local news as well as Utah Politics section with campaign updates and other useful links.
VermontBurlington Free Press.com - some legislative coverage during session, good Vermont election section.
VirginiaRichmond Times-Dispatch - this state capital newspaper does an excellent job of reporting on the General Assembly, and is much better overall for Virginia issues than the Washington Post.
WashingtonThe Seattle Times - has a local news section that provides articles concerning state politics in the "Inside Politics" section.
West VirginiaCharleston Daily Mail - this site has been recently updated and the paper is much improved. An elections section is new for 2002 - hopefully, news on the legislature while in session will follow.
WisconsinMadison.com - links to both the Wisconsin State Journal and the Capital Times.
WyomingTrib.com (Casper) - has good coverage of western regional news.
District of ColumbiaThe Washington Post - one of the best online newspapers worldwide.
